What We Believe
At Fortress of Inca, we believe that the people who make our shoes are just as important as the people who buy them. We work with several workshops and factories in Peru, and personally audit each one. We do this because it is important to us that the artisans we employ are not being taken advantage of. As a result, our shoemakers work in excellent conditions and enjoy benefits like health care, paid maternity leave and social security.
We only use the best, locally sourced natural materials available to us. High quality leather, rubber and wood are all plentiful in Peru. The tanneries we use have their own water and residue treatment facilities. The leathers are free of lead and do not contain chrome 6. The tanneries do the whole process of hair removal, tanning, dyeing and finishing in-house. All leather are vegetable tanned.
The leather that we use is a byproduct of the meat industry that might otherwise be turned into organic waste and would be very harmful to the planet. We believe that it is our ethical and environmental duty to ensure that these animal hides are used in a sustainable manner as long as they continue to be produced.
Other brands cut costs by using inferior materials, yet they still choose to overcharge for their products.
Our aim has always been to price our products fairly--taking into account the incredible quality of our shoes and ensuring that our artisans are fairly compensated--so that they can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
Our shoes might not be the cheapest on the market, but we challenge you to find a higher quality, handmade leather shoe at a better price.
We take steps each day to inspire others to do good.
A lot of brands nowadays glamorize the one-for-one model or donate to charities to cover up the fact that they’re exploiting workers or using subpar materials for their products. We believe that putting an emphasis on fair labor practices, pricing, and quality materials will create a stronger and more sustainable economy for all.
